In a country where the minimum wage is about $350 a month for a working class individual, many less advantaged families earn a living by selling goods and handiwork on the street. These Vendedores (sellers) work long hours to provide for themselves and their loved ones, either by selling from small stalls or walking around with their merchandise looking for customers. Recently the Ecuadorian government has begun to crack down on illegal street sellers by forcefully removing their stalls and destroying their goods. About 60 percent of Ecuadorians live below the poverty line and make less than minimum wage, for many families being Vendedores is their only source of income.
